“My volunteer has been a lifeline for me!  She is so lovely, I can talk to her and the children think she’s wonderful.  She plays with them or we all go out together to the local park.”

Thinking of Volunteering?

There are several ways that you can help Home-Start Butser in a voluntary capacity:

  • by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer (see our Vacancies Page)
  • by becoming a Community Ambassador (see our Vacancies Page)
  • by joining the Trustee Board
  • by helping in our Family Group

Home-Start Butser's home-visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are parents themselves and know how challenging it can be bringing up a family. All volunteers attend a 40 hour preparation course, undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide two references before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Our volunteers offer their time and commitment and are non-judgemental.

Home-Start Butser’s Trustee Board

Although we are part of the national organisation of Home-Start UK, each scheme is run independently. We have an agreement with Home-Start UK which ensures that we abide by their Standards and Methods of Practice and follow the Home-Start ethos and quality guidelines. Our Trustee Board is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as social care, PR and marketing, IT, HR, funding and business. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the work we undertake and a willingness to be actively involved in the running of the charity. The trustee board is responsible for the financial security of the organisation and ensures its strong governance.
