Two young children, Lauran and Jack, from a local family who had support from Home-Start Butser, organised a Jumble Sale on Saturday. The total amount raised was £270.90.  Mum Naomi says, "It was the children's idea to raise money for Home-Start Butser by putting on a Jumble Sale.  We are so grateful for the support that we had from Home-Start Butser a little while ago when things were difficult.  The children were involved in all the planning and organisation, it was their idea.  They want other families to be able to benefit in the way that we did."  Nicola Winter, Scheme Manager, says, "We were so impressed with teh amount of effort Jack, Lauren and Naomi put into the Jumble Sale.  £270.90 is a considerable sum of money and will help support a local family going through a difficult time.  Thank you!"Jumble sale cropped

On Friday 13th March Home-Start in Hampshire hosted an Early Years Conference at Winchester Guildhall.  Home-Start Butser Staff, volunteers and guests joined the packed audience of over 300 for a very inspiring day chaired by Alistair Stewart.  One of our volunteers who attended said "I was expecting most of the Conference to go over my head but was pleasantly surprised.  I must admit I wanted to go to hear Camila Batmanghelidgh (Kids Comnpany) but the other speakers were just as captivating.  Dr Alain Gregoire (Hampshire Perinatal Mental Health Service) had me cheering inwardly as he said he was working with others to improve mental health in pregrnant women and those in the first postal natal years.  Rob Parkinson (Chief Executive of Home-Start UK) affirmed the role of volunteers and confirmed early years intervention is the best way to help the disadvantaged.  I came out of the conference on a high knowing that what I do makes a difference."

Watch the press release from the Conference on this Youtube link:

Another of our volunteers said "Hearing evidence and statistics that demontrated the importance of early intervention, of caring for the mental health of parents and of finding ways to break the cycle of abuse that runs in some families from one generation to another really highlighted how essential the work of Home-Start is."

Our next Volunteer Preparation Course starts on Wednesday 22nd April.

Butser Hill Challenge

Nicola Winter, Scheme Manager, was delighted to receive a cheque for £5,000 this week from Alan Shons, the Race Director of Butser Hill Challenge.  This is in addition to the collection on the day of the race which raised £238.34.

This is the second successive year that we have been the chosen charity for the funds raised from the Butser Hill Challenge and we are very grateful for this very generous donation.

We thought it was a wonderful community event supported by so many enthusiastic runners of all ages.

As we are currently receiving no statutory funding we rely on the support of the local community more than ever to help us raise the vital funds we need.
