Big Give Christmas Challenge 2017

We're very excited to let you know that Home-Start Butser has been selected to participate in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2017, the UK's largest match funding campaign.

We will be raising money for our new project, Bumpstart, supporting families through pregnancy and beyond.  More than 1 in 10 women develop a mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year after having a baby.  If untreated, this can have a devastating impact.

Local volunteers will be carefully selected and trained to visit parents in their home, helping them to have a happy and healthy pregnancy and enjoy being the best parent they can to their new baby.  Bumpstart volunteers will be able to offer emotional and practical support throughout the pregnancy and up until the baby is six months old.  Support can start at any time from the 12th week of pregnancy,

Completely free, and open to all, this life-changing service brings joy and happiness to parents and their babies during the crucial first months.  With positive attachment in the vital first months of life, the baby has a greater chance of a stable upbringing, and forming strong loving relationships throughout it's life.

If you share our vision and are inspired by the fantastic opportunities we are creating for young families in our area then please support our Christmas Challenge.

Donations to this project will be matched for 7 days from 12 noon on Tuesday 28th November.

Give peace a chance

Join us for a particularly special charity walk
This inspiring event was created by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association – part of the UK’s oldest established Muslim community. They aim to relieve suffering and serve mankind regardless of colour, creed or race. They believe that people coming together to help others brings about peace, engenders greater understanding, and promotes goodwill amongst people from all walks of life. We agree with them, and we are extremely proud to be one of the charities they are donating to. We would love to see as many of our supporters there as possible.

Join us on Saturday, 9 September, for a fun morning walking the Shipwrights Way to Alice Holt Forest Centre. Key timings are: 9.00am welcome and registration, 10:45am opening ceremony, 11:00am start of walk, 12 midday lunch.

We are looking forward to a day out with people who all want to help make the world a better place, walking and chatting as we go.

To find out more, click here Walk-for-Peace-pdf.pdf for the leaflet, go to their website, http://charitywalkforpeace.org/charity-walk-peace-east-hampshire/, or call 07846 379 057.

Our next volunteer training course will commence on 14th March.  The free 10 week training programme will be held at Winton House, Petersfield on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 - 9.30 pm.

Westlake IT

A huge thank you to Westlake IT for becoming the latest corporate supporter of Home-Start Butser.  Without the generosity and commitment of local businesses like Westlake IT we wouldn't be able to continue our vital work supporting local families.  Such support helps in many ways: financial donations, use of facilities, advice and services, and events.

Westlake IT is a growing company in Waterlooville providing tailored IT consultancy, implementation and Helpdesk services to businesses.  We look forward to working with the owner Chris Apperley, and Marketing and Business Development Manager Susannah Jeffery, and developing exciting new opportunities.

"We are delighted to support Home-Start Butser.  They do a great job and I wish I'd known about them when my son was little.  We're a business that employs people with families so I know how hard it is to raise children, with all the demands of modern life, and that's where charities like Home-Start come in." Chris Apperley, M.D.

Annual General Meeting 2016

It was wonderful to see so many Members and Friends at our recent successful Annual General Meeting.  The event saw the launch of our Ambassador Scheme which you can read more about on the "home" page of this website.  Certificates were presented to Judith D, Judith J, Belinda H and Stella H who have been volunteering with us for over five years.  An Outstanding Contribution Certificate was awarded to Justin Kelly for his longstanding commitment and support to Home-Start Butser.  A highlight of the event was hearing from a family and their volunteer about their experience and this had a powerful impact on the audience.

If you were unable to attend and would like to see a copy of our Annual Report please see our "About" page of this website and follow the link.

Finally we would like to offer our thanks to Churcher's College who, yet again, allowed us to host this event on their premises.
