We believe every child and parent deserves the best chance in life. However, behind many closed doors, there are families with young children suffering bereavement, redundancy, relationship breakdown, disability, illness, loneliness and depression. These crises affect the children as well as the parents, and when no one is there to help, the effects can last for years. Home-Start Butser volunteers change lives by supporting these families during times of crisis; they walk through the door and provide vital support.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our first ever Big Give Christmas Challenge. Through your huge generosity we have beaten our target of £12,000, and raised a total of £14,194.

This money will go directly to help the many women who suffer from illness and isolation in pregnancy and the early months of their baby’s life.

The tragic reality is more than 1 in 10 women develop a mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year after having a baby. If untreated, this can have a devastating impact. Our trained volunteers provide support to vulnerable parents, giving them a chance of a happy healthy pregnancy, and someone to turn to in the first six months after the baby is born. A lifeline at this early stage can give families and babies a stable future. Thank you to everyone who gave so much.

"Nowadays you hear some saying, people are only out for what they can get out of life for themselves, nobody really cares about anyone else, and it's all about number one. Well our Bump-Start Christmas Big Give appeal has proved people are kind and generous. This is a time of year when people are challenged financially with the expense of Christmas, but local people have risen to the challenge, and it has been a huge success. It puts a smile on my face and gladdens me, that people are kind, thoughtful and generous with their resources." Tom, Home-Start Butser Volunteer
